Lord, Have Mercy on the Blind!

Alvin McEwan’s piece in the Huffington Post regarding the “May Day” Christian prayer event in Washington, DC is classic hypocrisy. He labels Christian prayer an exercise in hatred while spewing hatred himself.

He opens by saying:

“According to organizers, the event was:

“to humble ourselves, pray, seek the face of God, and turn from our wicked ways–individually and as a nation.

“Translation: another one of those ‘America needs to repent and turn to God before he opens a big can of whip ass on us’ events religious right groups generally hold when they are either trying to raise more funds or galvanize more folks through scare tactics.”

Mr. McEwan must have vision problems. The whippin’ is not a coming attraction. We’re getting whipped already. The folks advocating free sex of all varieties have seen over 500,000 casualties from AIDS. Thirty-five million Americans are on welfare, in large part because the “modern”” family leaves out fathers. Our prisons house over 1.6 million inmates – mostly from these “modern” families. Now, that’s a whippin’!!!

Can it get worse? Yes.

Am I a master of scare tactics?

If you see a tornado ripping your community apart, would you warn people?

God can pour down fire like He did on Sodom and Gamorrah or He can flood the world like He did in Noah’s day, but all He really has to do is sit and watch what happens when His wisdom is rejected. Re-define marriage, re-define family, institute Bog Government socialism, and you’ll see the consequences. Wise choices have good consequences. Bad choices have bad consequences. That’s not hatred, bigotry or intolerance – it’s common sense!

Repentance is not a religious hot flash. It’s a recognition that you’ve made some bad decisions, followed by a commitment to do the right thing(s).

If you can’t see that America has done some bad things (like getting $19 trillion in debt), you need to read Romans Chapter One to learn why your vision is impaired:

“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

“Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator – who \is forever praised. Amen.

“Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

“Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”

You can choose to mock God. You can choose to mock those who pray to Him. You can call them hateful bigots. You can oppose everything they stand for, but you cannot escape the consequences of immorality any more than you can escape the consequences of gravity.

It is an act of love and wisdom to pray to God, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.”

Heaven on earth beats hell on earth any day.
